That doesn’t mean that nothing is happening down there. In fact, the reality is quite the contrary. Not only is Antarctica the one of the most extreme places in the world, it is so incredibly important to scientific advancement as well as managing world climate! Throughout this video series, you will find out what goes on at the bottom of the world as well as how we are influencing this gorgeous and pristine region of the planet and how we can make sure it’s still there for years to come! Part of what makes Antarctica so valuable is its biodiversity. While you might think this frozen wasteland has little to offer in living things, Antarctica truly is "home sweet home" for some of the strangest animals in the world. What makes it so incredible is that Antarctica's ecosystem is so isolated that it's just like a laboratory - with more scientific constants thanks to its seclusion, we can learn about ecosystems as a whole. As the human race, we have developed more and more ways to reliably combat the forces of nature that wish to tear us down. Most people have heard of Antarctica’s issue with the ozone hole - or lack thereof. Even though we have all but solved this important issue, it doesn’t hurt to know what could have been.
